Blurb:
Joe Kramer is a simple-minded young man tending farm with his father. When a neighbor needs a lift, his father sends him out to give the woman a ride. Soon, a Moonlight Clan Council member has her claws in Joe, leaving him a changed man.
Accepting his fate, Joe joins a wolf pack steeped in history and tradition, but someone among them is threatening to tear their pack apart. To make matters worse, as the pack master, Joe rebukes the traditions of the past while ignoring the mandated placement of two mates.
As he leads his pack to a position of strength, Joe will stand out as the clear Alpha destined to protect the East Tennessee Moonlight Clan Council, but will his lack of experience and immaturity cost the clan what they cherish most? And who, if anyone, will stand beside him when he fights to protect those closest to home?
Excerpt:
A growl louder than thunder left Joe’s lungs and he lurched forward, becoming instantly aware of who and what he was. Historic events filled his mind like memories of a past he’d experienced, that he had somehow been a part of in another life.
Unfolding like memories, clips raced through his brain, giving an accounting of places and things, people and occurrences in their lives. There were wars fought and battles won. The pain and triumph filled his head, pounding through his mind’s eye so quickly he felt as if a determined drummer was hammering the images inside his skull with a dull drum.
Ducking his head, he eyed the ground beneath him. Then, he turned to the man who’d apparently expected his transformation. His nostrils flared with the scent of arousal. An intoxicating fragrance engulfed him. No, it was suffocating, maddening.
“You need me, Joe,” Jacob said, low and deep.
Joe shook his head, trying to escape the sketchy portraits, the fuzzy pictures from a past he didn’t recognize. He fought to hang on to some pieces of himself, but gone was the simple boy with misunderstood dreams.
A new male rose to the fore, leaving behind the young man who never stood a chance at developing into the person he’d wanted to become. His path was chosen. His future, determined. The unraveling tale appeared in faded images as a quite sacred, and maybe even guarded, fate unfolded.
He was an Alpha, the leader of an Eastern Tennessee band of werewolves. And as if his plans for the future had always been focused upon his ideas and goals for a pack he’d yet to meet, he took off into the woods, running wild and free for the very first time.
