CONTEST! Win Two Free E-Books

Readers, I'm counting on you for help. Let me pick your brain. If you will be so kind to copy and paste your answers in the comment section, you may win two free e-books. More on that at the bottom of the blog but first:

1. How often do you visit review sites?

Are you a ‘frequent’ visitor to review sites? If so, which ones?

2. Do you click the banners or cover art advertisements when you visit book related sites or do you just ‘browse’ and go, sort of like window shopping?

3. I’ll click a banner more frequently than I’ll click a cover image. How about you?

4. How often do you read excerpts posted on Yahoo Groups?

5. What blogs do you visit most and why?

6. Do you still subscribe to print magazines and if so, which ones and why? What do you like most about the magazines you receive?

7. Authors—what are you doing this month to promote yourself and your books? Publishers—what are you doing this month to promote your publishing company and your authors?

Leave a comment and ONE lucky winner will be chosen on Thursday, September 2, 2010. The winner will receive two free e-books, winner’s choice from Destiny Blaine or one of my other pen names. This contest excludes WINNING VIRGIN DEVOTION.

So come on out and give your opinion. You can skip number seven if you'd like. That's just the curious writer living within, trying to see if anyone has a greener side of the fence than everyone else. Oh, and while you’re giving your opinion, stop by and visit my website. Let me know what you think about the updates. Patty from Way2Kool Designs did a great job, didn’t she?

Until next time, leave a bunch of comments. I have a couple of books to give away!

Plus, you never know what else you might win around here!

2. Do you click the banners or cover art advertisements when you visit book related sites or do you just ‘browse’ and go, sort of like window shopping?

Window Shopping unless a blurb looks good.

3. I’ll click a banner more frequently than I’ll click a cover image. How about you?

I click the cover if there is a blurb. I'm not so much of someone who buys on a cover.

4. How often do you read excerpts posted on Yahoo Groups?

Rarely. If a post says promo, I tend to delete them. If I'm in a chat and an excerpt looks good, I'll put it in my books I want file.

5. What blogs do you visit most and why?

I don't go to very many blogs unless they are ones I'm a guest on.

6. Do you still subscribe to print magazines and if so, which ones and why? What do you like most about the magazines you receive?

I don't subscribe to any print magazines.

7. Authors—what are you doing this month to promote yourself and your books? Publishers—what are you doing this month to promote your publishing company and your authors?

I always promote on loops and try to chat with authors I know. I also like to leave feedback on others posts if it's something that looks interesting.

Hi Destiny,

Great topic. I frequent blogs often, and mostly when someone tweets about a review. I don't go looking for reviews unless I'm interested in buying that book. Then I read everything I can about the book on Amazon, and other big bookseller sites.

I never buy a book unless it comes highly recommended. That's because I have very little time to read these days. I guess I want a guarantee that I'll like the book.

Again, I don't go to the major review sites unless I'm there to read one of my reviews. I'll often read the others to get an idea of how the reviewer grades. If she/he swards a lot of fives, I don't pay much attention, however, if he/she awards mostly 3.5, then I really take notice of a book when she/he gives it a 5.

The other day I was on a popular review site (blogger's site) and I noticed that all the big name authors received fives, hands down. The lesser known authors much less. Perhaps this is coincidental, but maybe not too.

I don't click on cover images or banners because I'm there to look at a specific book. And I keep track of the top ten best sellers on Abe every week, and the top 100 best sellers on Amazon in all the particular categories I'm interested in.

So I'm not a good one to ask. I shop for books entirely different, and for different reasons, than the average reader/buyer does.

Thanks for asking. This is a very interesting discussion. I'll be back to see what everyone says.

Have a great week, Keta

. How often do you visit review sites? Only when they tell me they've reviewed one of my books.

Are you a ‘frequent’ visitor to review sites? If so, which ones? See above.

2. Do you click the banners or cover art advertisements when you visit book related sites or do you just ‘browse’ and go, sort of like window shopping? I never click on banners or ads and rarely visit anything but publisher or commercial book sites.

3. I’ll click a banner more frequently than I’ll click a cover image. How about you? Never a banner or a cover.

4. How often do you read excerpts posted on Yahoo Groups? Almost never. There are far too many.

5. What blogs do you visit most and why? I visit blogs rarely, but occasionaly do visit one that has a topic that appeals to me.

6. Do you still subscribe to print magazines and if so, which ones and why? What do you like most about the magazines you receive? Only get RWR because I'm a member, ditto AARP and Reminisce because it's a permanent Christmas gift from a relative. Not much of interest in any of those three to me any more.

7. Authors—what are you doing this month to promote yourself and your books? Publishers—what are you doing this month to promote your publishing company and your authors? As an author, I'll be a blog guest on several blogs and appear on various promo lists with my two books coming out this month. Plus I belong to a private closed group of 12 authors so sill be doing promo on their list.

I found your blog easy to read and easy to negotiate--plus being clean, not cluttered. All positives--especially the easy to read part--many fail that test.

Hi Julie—

Thanks for dropping by to blog with us. Let us know more about the blogs you visit if you’re still around. Do you have the links for: Linda's, Champagne's and The Writers Vineyard?

Love Romances and More is one of my all-time favorite review sites. I'll provide the LRC link here: http://loveromancesandmore.blogspot.com. Authors, readers, and bloggers, you definitely want to check them out!

Julie, get in touch if you’d like to reserve a blog date. We'd love to have you visit with us!

~~~~~
Hi Sandy~
Thank you for commenting, lady! We'd love to schedule a time for you to blog with us. Let’s see, what about October? Do I hear a big YES? I thought so. What date works for you? ;))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi Keta!

Another author friend I can’t wait to tug over here for another blog date! Yes, I'm trying to put you on the spot. When can we expect you again? :))

Like you, I enjoy Amazon reviews, but unfortunately, some are front-loaded. Those reviews are easy to spot. Many of them start or end with “I wanted to like this book but…” That one statement alone waves a flag of “This is an inside review. I don’t like this author but want others to see me as an unbiased reviewer in hopes someone will read my snarky review.” ;) I know, I'm terrible.

Thanks for posting!

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Annalisa~
Thank you for dropping by. I’m a big, big TRS fan. They’re very author-friendly. I'm a fan of BBB as well.
Can you leave us links for Cyber Launch? I want to check them out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi T~

Long and Short is another fantastic review site. I’m glad you mentioned them. Which Yahoo Groups do you visit most? Sandy Sullivan’s blog is definitely a must-read author blog. I’ll see you over there soon! Thanks for posting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Kaisquared~
Romance Reviews Today and Whipped Cream Reviews are definitely worth frequent visits. Thanks for mentioning them. I haven’t heard of Running with Scissors. Can you leave a link? Like you, I really enjoy Smart Bitches: http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com/. A great source of industry information! Thank you for blogging with us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi Dawne—

You are our winner! Congratulations! Drop me an email when you have a chance. Do you have a link for Ellen’s blog? Please leave her link if you drop back by. We hope to host you on this blog soon. When are you available? :))

Thanks so much for dropping in!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Jane,
Thank you for stopping by and especially for the compliment: “I found your blog easy to read...” I really appreciate it.
Since you have books coming out this month, can I interest you in a blog date? I’ll serve Dunkin Donuts coffee and lots of promo. Do I hear a yes? :)
Thanks again for all the information and posts!
Hugs,
Destiny
