Excerpt:
A human, a vampire and a werewolf walked into a bar. Sounds like the start of a bad joke. I can assure you it isn’t. And telling you that, actually, the human and the vampire walked into the bar together, and found the werewolf already there, probably doesn’t make it sound any better. Well tough, because that’s the way it went down.
Ace and I met at a Halloween fancy dress party. I know, I know—cliché of clichés. And yes, he was dressed as a vampire—Albeit a horrendously exaggerated one—all slicked-back hair, über pale skin and visible fangs. In real life, he actually looks no different to you or I. Okay, he is a bit pale. But at the time, I’d laughed at him and asked if he thought vampires weren’t a bit overdone—it was when Twilight was at the height of its popularity—all angsty teens and stalkerish behavior.
He’d laughed right back, a joyous, melodious sound that had heat pooling in my groin—then as suddenly as it had arrived, his mirth disappeared. Then he’d said, “Overdone or not, we’re here to stay. And I don’t fucking sparkle.”
My heart had been pounding, and my mouth had gone dry. Somehow, I’d known he wasn’t joking. And, although my conscious brain had shut down, my subconscious had had my back, because I’d heard myself say, “Well, thank fuck for that, because I’ve never been a fan of glitter.”
He’d laughed again, the sound tugging at my very core. And—apologies for yet another cliché—we’ve been together ever since.
Several years later and we’re still as madly in love as ever, and still fucking like rabbits. Sex with a vampire is everything you’d expect it to be—energetic, powerful, finessed, mind-blowing and packed with stamina. Providing you can keep up, that is.
In addition to our unquenchable lust for each other, Ace and I have engaged in bondage, sex toys, spanking, anal, pegging—almost an A to Z of things to do in bed. Some we’ve tried and discarded, others have been a regular part of our sexual repertoire.
And yet, our latest adventure was the most exciting yet. You see, after mine and Ace’s initial meeting, I was given an almighty education in everything it meant to be a vampire. Myths were dispelled, other beliefs were confirmed—he definitely didn’t sparkle—and yet more things I’d never even thought of were seared into my brain.
So when Ace announced he had a friend who was a werewolf, I didn’t even bat an eyelid. It was the follow up information that surprised me.
“He wants to what?” The tone of my voice by the end of the sentence was so high that probably only dogs could hear me. And yet it was genuine surprise, rather than disapproval, that fuelled my reaction.
Raising his eyebrows, Ace gave me that sexy smirk that always gets my blood pounding through my veins and my pussy aching to be filled. “You heard me, Aneesa. My friend Barton would like to screw you. With me present, of course, and actively taking part.”
“A th-threesome?” I stumbled over the word—not because I was horrified. Quite the opposite, in fact. Being fucked by two hot guys at once had long been on my sexual bucket list—a list that, since meeting Ace, had had items checked off it at a rate of knots. I was going to have to start thinking of some more shit to put on it. I was way too young to have completed my bucket list—sexual or not—for Christ’s sake!

Excerpt One:
Chapter One
I died for a short while the first time we met. There was no fluttering in my chest, no somersault of my stomach, no burning in my loins; my heart literally stopped. He was tall, at least six foot four, and dressed in a pair of worn indigo jeans that perfectly matched his intense stare. A silk black shirt covered what I imagined to be a ripple of hard muscle, and opened at the top showing a dusting of tight dark curls. His thick neck led towards a razor-sharp, square jaw line, a straight nose that had clearly never seen the ill-effects of rough play, and deep hooded eyes. His hair had been styled with a slight wave. I was sure it was dark brown, but it could have easily been black, and had shots of silver-grey streaking through it.
My face was lined up with his toes, or more precisely, his pristinely polished black patent Chukka boots. Palms down in the thick mud beneath me, I pushed up and sneaked a glance at the man in front of me. He looked none-too-pleased to see his clothes spattered with flecks of dirt from where I had landed and splashed him.

Excerpt Two:

A couple of hours later, I woke to the sound of male voices chatting and laughing in the room below mine. I stood carefully, straining to hear the topic of conversation. I caught the words “money”, “sport” and “pavilion,” and knew instantly that TDS was in my childhood home.
Suddenly, I yearned to see him again. But, glancing in the full-length mirror by the door that led to my en suite bathroom, I saw that I was in no fit state to be speaking to handsome older men.
Dishevelled was an understatement. My hair resembled a bird’s nest, my eyes had purple rings underneath them, and the stench of sweat and sickness leaked from my pores.
I dragged myself to the bathroom, switching on the shower and letting the water run until it was almost scalding. My body trembled with a cold that only I felt. A hot shower was desperately needed. Before long, clouds of steam billowed over the top of the glass doors, informing me that it was time to cleanse away the illness that stuck to me like goosegrass.

Defining Raven: To Gain by Force--The Story Behind the Story

Good morning!.

I'm excited to report good news about Defining Raven: To Gain By Force. The story was one of my first completed full length novels and by researching the 'search' option in old emails, it looks as if the original manuscript may have been started in 2004/2005 and finally picked up for publication in April 2007. It was only on the market for a couple of weeks with an Australian-based publisher before I pulled the manuscript because of the publisher's change in ownership. After that, Defining Raven was pitched again and again to more US publishers and no one would touch it..

During that time, I received statements like, "I don't think we can publish it due to the content and the predictions involved" or "Susan, I didn't even want this manuscript on my computer because of the political elements...."

To say I was dumbfounded is an understatement. As far as I was concerned, Defining Raven was fiction. In any event, I cut out a lot of elements that might have been considered more controversial matters but a lot remains, too, because without those elements we wouldn’t have a story.

I'm not involved in politics or conspiracy-type theories so the plot wasn't/isn't based on predictions. However, as I read over the manuscript for round two, I started to see where some readers might have formed a different opinion. Still, it is/was fiction.

In the end, the majority of the 'rewriting' involved focuses around changing one huge player to Alpha 13 and assigning code names to other foreign countries which works out rather well since the President in this story is only in office due to.....well, you'll have to read the book. In a dystopian novel, anything can happen.

The second thing I want to mention about Defining Raven: ToGain by Force is this—the first edition was horrible. The first one shouldn’t have been published at all and while it wasn’t the worst I’ve seen, it was indeed full of ‘flowery’ language where this writer was apparently trying to sound like…well, a writer.
I had to laugh, most of the way through it actually, because I can't really stand 'flowery language' in manuscripts or anywhere else so it was sort of the hot kettle calling one steamy.

In the first edition, the POV shifts were obvious and in abundance. Hopefully that's all fixed now. If readers read this one way back when, I have to wonder if they're still with me. Let's hope so.

The biggest thing I noticed is a huge change in my writing style. With the aforementioned, I’ve always heard writers can change their ‘style’ but not their voice. In my opinion that’s wrong. A writer’s voice can absolutely change which is what made reworking this novel so difficult. In fact, I would dare say it’s been the greatest writing challenge I’ve faced in recent years.

In any event, because of so many different reasons and the fact that Defining Raven is a second edition and was an original first novel for this writer, the price of  Defining Raven: To Gain by Force is $.99.

I still want to warn my regular readers: You may be disappointed by the quick and very different 'sex' scenes. In fact, while reading the original scenes in the book I found myself asking if I'd ever had sex prior to writing that mess. *Smiles*  The scenes were not hot and there wasn't a lot I could do to fix them without gutting the whole manuscript so I want to be upfront about that. Still, there are several there and they have been tweaked.

A wise publisher once told me: "It is easier to write a new manuscript than it is to fix an old one" and now I'm a believer. About 30 hours went into editing and reworking this one as time permitted. Still, there were so many other things I could’ve done to improve the manuscript but I ran out of time. Eventually, I had to step away from it because it is a second edition book and there’s only so much you can do with a dated manuscript.

I hope those of you who like dystopian romances will enjoy this one but again, it’s different than most of my current works. My voice has changed quite a bit over the years. In fact, I always tell readers, if you’re new to my work, start with the most recent series and titles and work your way back. There’s a reason for that.

This morning, I want to thank Lili Booth for editing the second edition and Patty Foltz at Way2Kool Designs for creating a beautiful cover. They both worked hard on this project.  A team effort, Defining Raven: To Gain by Force is a futuristic dystopian novel with a little suspense, too.

While I wish I’d written this novel from scratch (and it might have been easier), I’m still proud of the plot and the ideas that went into this particular work. Yes, the plot has changed somewhat thanks to our world’s current events, but overall the nuts and bolts are still there. The end result was kind of neat, too. It looks more like a collaboration between two writers than a book written by one. In fact, I couldn’t remember anything at all about the story when I first jumped in and started editing and rewriting portions of the second edition so it was a real treat of sorts.

Readers, if you paid more than $.99 for this title during pre-orders, Amazon should adjust the price but if not, let me know.  Now that I’ve written a book here, I’ll direct you to the book mentioned above and below. Defining Raven: To Gain by Force is available for pre-orders at Amazon and is coming soon to all third party retail sites on release date which is January 19th.

Happy 2015! Hope your year is off to a fabulous start!

Book Details:

The year is 2088 and The United States of America is under siege by its own government. President Lee is in power returning to regal formalities in an era inappropriate for a ruthless tyrant. The power he holds over his country is overwhelming and he is the most feared man in the world using an iron fist to maintain his laws and proposed order.

When the new man in power discovers a beautiful woman working in The White House, he decides it is time for a First Lady. He offers her ‘an opportunity’ to become his bride. Refusing the President isn’t an option.

Facing a technology war and threats from outside forces, Lee marries Raven as a strategic chess move. He can distract his enemies if he marries. When Raven becomes a target, he is free to make his first political move.

After President Lee places Raven in protective custody, a talk, dark, and handsome agent is assigned to her security detail. The two form a mutual attraction almost from the start and while they fight the lust burning out of control, the chemistry is more than either of them can deny.

President Lee focuses on a looming war and calls a press conference to address those who are attacking the country. In front of the world, he kills a well connected journalist, a journalist who is coveted by the countries behind the looming war. Still, Lee's message is clear. He is his country. He answers to no one. More importantly, he will not relinquish control over technology and electronic communications to anyone.

Lee's ruthless ways and cruelty generate whispers about a nation desperately in need of a savior. Instead, the President becomes more unreasonable. Soon, the world is at Raven’s mercy. And an enemy uses her lover against her in hopes she will stop a madman from remaining in the most coveted political seat in the world.

Excerpt:

Alana really couldn’t believe how flat Holland was. She’d been told by many people, but somehow, she still wasn’t expecting a place that made Cambridgeshire look like the Peak District. Her view from the train as she travelled from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam’s Centraal Station was unimpeded. Not so much as a hillock was visible.
And now, here she was, standing outside the station with crowds milling around her. A mixture of tourists, businesspeople and natives. She herself was a combination of two of those groups—she was here on business, but she’d deliberately extended her trip so she could spend a couple of days exploring the city. She had a day either side of her meeting, the boring part a filling to a sightseeing sandwich. Though, despite the boring tag, the meeting definitely wasn’t a bad thing, it was an appointment to cross the ts and dot the is on a very lucrative deal—certainly the trip was worthwhile.
After watching the insanity for another minute or so, she began to head away from the station, wheeling her small case along with her. Already armed with a guidebook and a decent map, she knew where she was going. Her map-reading skills were excellent, and she made the short walk to her hotel in less than twenty minutes. Anywhere else, she’d have gotten a cab, but it appeared they were a rare commodity in this city.
She’d checked in, dumped her bags and freshened up within another ten minutes, and was back on the street.
An online acquaintance had sent her a bunch of information for her trip—about the best museums, interesting things to see that might not be in guidebooks, and details on transport. It appeared that Amsterdam was unlike London, Paris and Rome, in as much as it had trams as its preferred mode of transport, rather than underground trains. Only one Metro line ran through the city, north-to-south. Everywhere else was utterly dependent on trams, bikes and being on foot.
And fuck, there were a lot of bikes. They zipped here, there and everywhere, not always staying where they were supposed to be, it seemed. The slim Dutch people atop the bikes were oblivious, just concentrating on getting where they were going.
Alana searched for the nearest tram stop, and quickly discovered she needed to be on the other side of the road to head in the right direction.
Crossing the road was a chore in itself. A dice with death. She’d thought Rome’s motorists were insane, but at least they were fairly predictable. Here, she was faced with crossing a road that held a cycle path, a tram line and a lane for cars. Shifting down the pavement, she stood at the conveniently placed crossing. It still didn’t make things much easier, but at least she could mingle in with the crowd. Traffic was much more likely to stop if it was going to hit a crowd of people than a single pedestrian. Right?
By some miracle, she reached the opposite pavement unscathed—except for her nerves, which were shot—and approached the tram stop. As if by magic, a tram arrived, and it was the correct number. Things were looking up.
After a few minutes, she realised that public transport in Amsterdam was nowhere near as easy to navigate as in the other major cities she was familiar with. There, their Tube or Metro stations always had plenty of large, unmissable signs telling you where you were. Piccadilly Circus, Anvers, Piramide. Here, it seemed you were left to your own devices. There were announcements on board the tram, but they were in Dutch—a language which she knew very little of—incredibly muffled, and pretty much drowned out by the sound of the tram’s motion and its passengers.

For the Holidays--Five Rings by Destiny Blaine

Five Rings won an Epic Ariana 2011 Award for Best eBook Cover Art in the Fantasy/Paranormal Erotic Romance category. This beautiful cover was created by cover artist, Martine Jardin

Members of Jason Lory's original pride coalition warned of the shifter-mates remaining. Some were thought to be man-eaters. Others, the nomads, were considered very volatile and unable to shift successfully without the stimulation of five rings, only no one knew with absolute certainty what these rings were or where to find them. Jason Lory figured out the mystery.

Available now for $3.99Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The following quotes are from Five Rings by Destiny Blaine. They are character quotes from a novella about a beautiful young woman with a very twisted mind.

“When the average man shops for a ring, he isn’t thinking of the gold band in the metaphorical sense.
He sees the symbolical meaning and finally understands.
While there are some things money can’t buy, love is not one of them…”
--Jason Lory

“Every nymphomaniac hopes good sex will find her
And then transform her into the goddess she already believes lives within…”
--Simon Warner

“A soldier leaves for war and hopes the hard battle ahead will not take his life.
A woman with multiple personalities leaves for an institution and hopes a life of confinement will not break her spirit…"
-- Jordan St. Johns

“She was like the current dragging back and forth under the wide open sea…”
--Michael Mahoney.

“She was a victim placed at circumstance’s door.
A woman who held her head high as she searched for pride.
She was there for a reason, for a purpose larger than anyone understood.
So they acted as men and did what anyone else would in their position.
They made her crazy… and they made the diagnosis stick.
Then, they brought her forward and loved her…”
--Fran Conway

Five Rings by Destiny Blaine is a holiday EROTICA story. Please note, while there are romantic elements, this is not a Christmas story for readers of sweet romance. Five Rings is a provocative tale with an underlying twist and for those readers who are fond of paranormal short stories with mysterious elements.
