Don't Miss These Vampire Young Adult Novellas at Kindle Worlds

With Bonnie and Damon stuck on the other side, Caroline Forbes turns to the one person she can count on—Klaus Mikaelson. Not at all intimidated by an ‘original’ vampire, Caroline realizes the risks when she reaches out to Klaus but her heart is on the line right from the start.

Prepared to call in favors from old Mikaelson friends, Klaus and Caroline are soon on their way to Pennsylvania in search of an infamous witch. Their trip swerves toward danger when Gage, Klaus’s half-brother, discovers Klaus has begun an initiative to contact the other side.

Surprised to learn his estranged sibling is now an inconvenient obstacle, Klaus realizes Gage has the potential to become a real problem. Accompanied by a group of crossbreeds, Gage issues a dangerous ultimatum—Caroline or a favor.

With Caroline’s life in danger, Klaus has no other choice but to call Elijah for help but when his brother shows up with Elena and Enzo, too, the road trip is bound to end in disaster. To make matters worse, it’s hard to outrun a stealthy creature with nothing to lose and everything to gain. More importantly, Gage knows just how far to push Klaus to ensure his brother meets every last one of his demands.

11. Klaus to Caroline: “Please tell Enzo I have a dagger to dip in his blood.”

14. Klaus: “I never wanted to save everyone, sweetheart. Only you.”

15. Elena to Enzo: “Don’t make me regret this.”
Enzo: “If you do? Go see Alaric. He’ll make you forget this trip ever happened.”

16. Caroline: “This is our moment, Klaus.”

17. Elijah to Enzo: “You would be doing yourself a great disservice if you ever challenged my brother.”

18. Enzo in regards to Klaus and Elijah: “I wouldn’t dream of it, Elena. They’re quite entertaining when they break open that aging bottle of brotherly love.”

19. Enzo about the panthers: “Something tells me they aren’t exactly shaking in their claws.”

20: Enzo: “Blondie, for once Klaus and I can agree on something. Be a doll and go turn on the cartoons. Let the adults handle this.”

A crossbreed with an insatiable appetite for revenge, Gage is willing to do whatever necessary to drive his half-brother Klaus Mikaelson to his knees. By removing three important people from his brother’s life, Gage gains the leverage he needs to access the Other Side and hurt Klaus at the same time.

Being a hybrid will not protect Klaus from heartache. Now that his crossbreed brother is holding Caroline and Elijah, Klaus will do whatever necessary to bring his family home. Throw in the fact that Enzo and Elena are pawns in Gage’s game and Klaus must rely on Rebekah and Kol. Time is of the essence once trickery is in play and Caroline believes Klaus has moved on without her.

Klaus faces his greatest obstacle. The game is set to begin. The winners are yet to be determined but even in victory, there will be tremendous heartache that will eventually lead to great loss or tie Klaus and Caroline to an everlasting love and a commitment that will stand the tests of time.

Spotlight on 2015 Releases: Ravenous

Ravenous-A Vampire Diaries at Kindle Worlds Novella

“So you’re the family pet.” Katherine struck a pose and cocked her head. Layers of dark brown hair tumbled down her back. Her brown eyes twinkled with mischief but Gage wasn’t easily fooled. Behind the impish smile and cocksure attitude lived a woman with a reputation among the worst.

Katherine Pierce, also known as Katerina Petrova, had lived for well over five hundred years. Some would argue that she had wasted the better part of her time on earth marking her place in history by behaving badly.

“And you must be the legendary Katherine.” Gage resisted the urge to tell her that she’d become quite legendary. After her death, there had been rampant jokes about the former Mikaelson lapdog. One minute she was running from her masters. The next, she was doing tricks to please them.

Elijah, from what Gage had been told, was the one who kept her in line. Klaus, on the other hand, chased her away with threats of death. Apparently that didn’t last long. From what Gage had been told, Katherine had been on the run for more than two-thirds of her life. Klaus, apparently, didn’t dwell on trying to find her.

“I was surprised to hear from you,” Katherine said, dragging her fingers across the back of his sofa.

“You were probably more surprised to learn that Klaus has another brother.”

“I knew about you.” She brushed her palms against the backs of the cushions. “What I want to know is how I ended up here and why you think I can help you.”

Gage studied her suspiciously then, wondering if Katherine realized she had been dead for several years. She didn’t look disoriented or act as if she had just taken her first steps beyond the grave. “We can help one another.” He hadn’t known she would reappear on the outskirts of Mystic Falls, but he had bumped into her in town nonetheless. Considering how it had happened, he considered their connection a real gift.

“We all want something in life, Katherine. I’m willing to give you what you want if you’ll do the same for me.”

She laughed and it was then when Gage paid closer attention to her empty gaze, certain then that any and all emotions wouldn’t quite reach their more telling spot in her eyes. Perhaps there was a lot to be said about lost souls and those who had already visited their final resting place.

“You haven’t spent a lot of time with the Mikaelsons or else you would know that most people tend to steer clear of Klaus and his siblings when they hear the word help. Those who know them best understand that help means, they need something and can use the one they’ve approached.”

“I’m not a Mikaelson.”

“You’re Klaus’s brother.”

“We share the same father. The Mikaelson problems were inherited from their lunatic of a mother.” He let her think about that before he added, “Isn’t she the one who turned them into monsters?”

“She is the one who started this all,” Katherine agreed. “But never kid yourself. Esther was following through on Mikael’s demands.” She shivered then as if Mikael’s name alone brought with it an unprecedented amount of fear.

Surprised by her act, and certain it was an act given where she’d been, Gage asked, “Will you work with me or not?”

“It depends.” She pranced around the luxuriously appointed room, seemingly distant as she studied the expensive furnishings. She flopped down on the canopy bed and caressed the comforter before asking, “What’s in it for me?”

New this week! The Vampire Diaries: Mystical Christmas (Kindle Worlds Novella) [Kindle Edition]

Writing Fanfiction-An Unexpected Break and Cherished Opportunity

When I first discovered Kindle Worlds, one of the first things I thought was "I don't have time to write something else, but if only...." The next series of thoughts sent this writer on a wild goose chase for information. I can't remember a time when I've read or written fanfiction so I really didn't know that much about it. Apparently it's wildly popular and some readers follow fanfiction sites as much as they follow their favorite authors.

Intrigued, I spent a day or so looking up information about fanfiction, but I still didn't 'read' any because I'd already made up my mind to write a holiday short story for the Vampire Diaries. I'm one of these writers who will avoid reading same-genre works if that's what I'm writing at the time.

In any case, soon after discovering the original world creators/authors/producers supported the Kindle Worlds initiative, I put aside current projects and edits.  Mystical Christmas was written in about ten hours and I had such a wonderful time writing the short story, I really wanted to write more. If time were only a good friend right now, I'd spend the next year writing stories for Kindle Worlds and the Vampire Diaries.

Mystical Christmas, while in its creation, was a true holiday for me as a writer. So often I write like mad from morning until night and rarely look up except to take a walk or maybe throw together a sandwich or raid the yogurt drawer. Gaining the opportunity to leave my worlds and visit another creative world was an unexpected treat. I hope readers will embrace Kindle Worlds, the authors writing for Kindle Worlds, and the producers, writers, and creative forces behind all Kindle World offerings. Like me, so many authors out there have truly enjoyed writing within the Kindle Worlds and if anything, it has given all of us an opportunity to challenge ourselves as writers by writing in another author's established world.

I can't appropriately express how much I enjoyed writing Mystical Christmas but out of over 300 published works on the market today, I can tell you with certainty. Mystical Christmas tops my list of most enjoyed writing projects. The opportunity came along when I needed a break and it jump-started new motivation and provided more inspiration than I ever imagined.

Please take a minute and read the blurb, a few excerpts, and some of my beta readers' favorite lines. If you read Mystical Christmas, let me know if you'd like to see more in the Vampire Diaries Kindle Worlds. I have a list of ideas for a possible trilogy. I'd love to know what you think about the Kindle Worlds opportunity and the Vampire Diaries: Mystical Christmas, a Kindle Worlds Novella.

Love,

What if everything you wanted was all within your reach but not yours for the taking?

Klaus and Stefan are tearing through the South collecting hybrids and leaving a trail of dead bodies behind them. Unable to reach Stefan any other way, Elena devises a holiday plan to lure Stefan back home.

Damon thinks Elena is wasting her time and fears the worst. He and Stefan no longer celebrate Christmas, but if Klaus approves Elena’s request, Damon will support her by giving her what she wants—a traditional Christmas.

What Elena wants and what she gets are two different vampires altogether. Elena approaches Klaus and asks for Stefan’s release, even if it’s only for one Christmas weekend. Klaus agrees, but his terms and conditions are nonnegotiable.

Soon, Elena is holed up in a snow-covered chalet with the Salvatore brothers and Klaus, an original vampire with an unusual agenda. And he’s gone to great lengths to find out who Elena really loves.

Excerpt One

Dear Diary,

I used to love mystery and danger. Like other teenage girls, I’d often imagined what it might be like to find myself in the middle of a catastrophe, stuck between two great forces—like good and evil—only far more dramatic.
At that time, Stefan and Damon Salvatore didn’t exist in my world. The world—at least the one I lived in—was less complicated. My days then were in black and white, with an occasional burst of color and flare, compliments of Caroline.
Then the Salvatore brothers entered my life and everything changed. I soon learned there wasn’t a line of division down the middle with these two. And after I met Damon and Stefan, my former life faded to black and now the past seems surreal.
I look down at the Salvatore driveway, now lined with packed snow and jagged tracks and wonder how I could’ve been so naïve. Who was that young girl who compartmentalized thoughts, people, places and things?  Why didn’t she take the time to see the bigger picture with more multidimensional aspects, more depth?
As I think about the coming hours with a mix of dread and a dash of excitement, I now know a well-rounded life takes a triangle’s shape. Life isn’t clean and tidy with a circular rotation driven by nature to lead us all back to where we started. It’s not boxed up all nice and neat with defined planes and specific instructions to make our days easier. How boring would that be? Then again, after barely surviving these last few months, boring sounds like a little slice of heaven.
It’s the most wonderful time of year or it is for those who believe in the two-sided world, the world beyond this window, the one where others grade their mere existence by good or evil.
But there is a third entity or force. And he’s standing right behind me.

Excerpt Two

“You promised to release him while we’re in Tennessee.”
“And I will,” Klaus assured her. “Once we’re settled in and before the sun goes down.”
“Is there a ‘but’ in there somewhere?”
“All right, Elena, you win. I’ll let you in on a little secret.” His demeanor changed then. “You can’t play with fate or run from it, love. Katerina tried and as you saw for yourself, she failed on numerous occasions. She also loved two brothers as you love two brothers.”
“I never said—”
Klaus held up his hand. “Let me finish. Damon gives you what you need, what you must have at any cost. Stefan, on the other hand, gives you what you want—the ability to stay committed to your high moral standards. The Stefan you know gives you a normal relationship, an acceptable bond. Your friends like him. Your teachers accept him.”
“What about the Stefan you know?”
“The Stefan I know would rip your pretty little neck apart if I so much as compelled him to do so.”
She swallowed, processing. Klaus wanted to hurt her. He wanted to watch how she interacted with the Salvatore brothers. He would then later use what he learned against her. “You made Stefan into something he’s not.”
“On the contrary,” Klaus said. “We’re vampires. That makes us hunters or predators by nature. We’re only killers by choice.”
“Stefan wouldn’t have done any of this if you hadn’t compelled him.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Klaus said. “I can hand an average man a gun, beat him within an inch of his life, and he will not pull the trigger if he isn’t a killer. The survival instinct, some of us have it and some of us don’t, Elena.”
“That’s a terrible comparison.”
Klaus shrugged. “Maybe you’re right. Besides, Stefan’s weapons are embedded in his gums. No one hands him anything. He takes what he wants.”

Beta Readers' "Favorite Lines from The Vampire Diaries" Mystical Christmas
(Kindle Worlds Novella) [Kindle Edition]

1. Her mind’s eyes flickered with newspaper clippings about a rampant killing spree, a murderous binge controlled by Klaus and executed by Stefan.

2. “On the contrary,” Klaus said. “We’re vampires. That makes us hunters or predators by nature. We’re only killers by choice.”

3. "Stefan’s weapons are embedded in his gums. No one hands him anything. He takes what he wants.”

4. "You and Damon probably weren’t supposed to spend Christmas together. You aren’t exactly an ideal mistletoe-seeking pair.”

5. "At the end of the day, you’re nothing more than a bleeding vein to him, Elena.”

6. Their love washed over her like a high tide racing toward shore in the middle of a devastating storm, a volatile gale that would temporarily calm before striking with brutal force in the desolate hours of a quiet holiday night.

7. “Proximity is a real bitch when you’re the only one with a beating heart in a houseful of vampires.”

8. “You can make a deal with the devil but it doesn’t mean you have to follow him back to hell.”

9. "Far be it for me to break the news here, but we’re both dead, brother.” Stefan lifted his glass. “I thought you knew.”

10. "I can’t pretend I don’t have feelings for you when every single time I look at you, I only see an extension of me.”

11. "It’s hard to choose a side when your heart draws its sword for one cause while your head supports another.”
